May the 4th be with you (to eat cake)

One Scottish supporter added her own twist by hosting three different themed events including a Star Wars Cake Break on May the 4th (May the force).

Laurie, who is a big science fiction and fantasy fan, held events at Glasgow’s ‘Flying Duck’ and at comic book store ‘Geek Retreat’ with a third Cake Break at home with friends and family.

By organising a number of raffle prizes, including signed artwork by graphic artists and a signed comic by a local author, Laurie smashed her fundraising target of £1000 by £300! The centrepiece of the event had to be the amazing Darth Vader cake. The force is strong in this one!

Geeks unite!

Self-confessed geek Laurie says “I was diagnosed [with Relapsing Remitting MS] in my first year of university and since then I’ve been determined to do things that enrich my life, help me have fun and hopefully make a positive difference in the lives of others”.

Laurie wanted to bring these things together and, with help of her fellow geeks, raise money and awareness for MS.

It’s great that Laurie has used her hobbies and contacts to raise essential funds for the MS Society and it doesn’t end there as she is already planning more fundraising events at ‘Geek Retreat’ so watch this space!
