Spicy chocolate apple muffins


9oz self raising flour (or Gluten free flour)
½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
½ tsp salt
3oz white sugar
3tbs cocoa powder
1tbs of the spice of your choice
3 apples chopped finely
1 egg (beaten)
6fl oz milk
3fl oz vegetable oil or melted butter

1tbs butter melted
4oz icing sugar sifted
1 ½ tbs hot water
3tbs cocoa powder
1tsp vanilla essence
1 crunchie bar broken into pieces


1. Sift all dry ingredients together then, in a separate bowl, mix the egg, milk, oil and apples.
2. Add the wet to the dry ingredients and mix.
3. Place into muffin cases and bake in gas mark 6 oven for 20 to 25 minutes.
4. Leave to cool before making the topping.
5. Add all topping ingredients together – you may need more or less hot water depending on consistency.
6. Spread over the muffins and then sprinkle over the smashed up crunchie bar.
